They say the first step is always the hardest, that’s why we’ve got your back! Before you assemble your team, decide what’s in scope, or identify your project champion, you need to determine if your activity is a project. Follow along to find out how to get started...

Step 1
Determine whether your activity is a project


An IT project is the implementation period for an IT activity that creates a new, unique, product, service, or result and has a start and end. An IT activity is defined under 3 V.S.A. § 2222(a)(10) as:

  • the creation, collection, processing, storage, management, transmission, or conversion of electronic data, documents, or records;

  • the design, construction, purchase, installation, maintenance, or operation of systems, including hardware, software, and services which perform or are contracted under Administrative Bulletin 3.5 to perform these activities.

Step 2
Reach out to your IT Lead


Once you've determined that your activity fits the IT project definition, your IT Lead will work with you to bring all the right people to the table for the Exploration Phase.

Here's some information your IT Lead will want to know to help you get started:

  • What is the business problem the project is trying to solve?
  • Which agencies and/or departments are involved and/or affected?
  • Does the project have any time constraints?
  • Are there any dependencies?
